Is it worth it? I am thinking it would save me a lot of time compared to the tediousness of making PECs cards with photoshop, but I wanted to hear from somebody who works with it.
Is the 'plus' version worth the extra 0. (just thought I would ask, but the 'regular' one is already reaching a lot)
It is such a huge chunk of money for us, but I think I am going to have to make a lot of his visual supports/schedules for Kindy while we are dealing with the evaluations. I know they are willing to help, but I am not having much faith in their ability to get everything done that ds needs before the first day of school in a week. I can also see a lot of uses for making social stories, shopping lists, and schedules a bit easier than what I have been doing. I feel like I spend more time making the supports than he does using it at this point. lol.

I think the library at our early on program lets you use it on site, maybe you have access to it through your school system. Our speech therapist gives us what we need, they have a big budget.My son's school's director of student services bought it for us to borrow for as long as we need it. To me, yes, it is worth it. It does so much more than simply make pictures. We make experience stories and social stories and schedules. It is so much easier to add the word to the picture. My son did not respond well to the ones I made myself and the school was not able to keep up making pic and stories for him. It cost 9
It was offered on a free trial basis for one month. Not the full version but it kept us going until we could get the one from the school.

I have a (bootleg) copy of the older version given to me by our behav. consult. To be honest, I don't use it much, certainly not 0. worth. I also have Picture It which has a good Emotions section.
My ex was able to find a site on-line that *share's* software and he was able to download the new Boardmaker and get it to work on his computer, I couldn't get it to open on mine though. If you know someone who good at that kind of thing....
I get most of my materials by googling images and www.setbc.org is great. I put together my visuals and social stories using MS Publisher which I find fairly easy to use and the clip-art with it has lots of good images.
I've been working on my visuals for about 6 mths now, I, too, feel like I spend more time planning and making them than acually using them. I know that they work 'cause a week after creating a visual for a specific issue, the problem resolves itself and I'm left with PECS all over the house (2yr old wants his own PEC's and I'm running out of wall space!)
If there is are specific PEC's you want from Boardmaker, maybe we who have BM can post them?? Can we do this ???
OH! OH! - wanted to add - check if your child responds to real pictures or cartoon drawings BEFORE putting together your visuals. I made a bunch with acual photos and Sam hated them - too much details. Now I use simple realistic colored drawings.

Where are you seeing 0? I am seeing it listed as 0, with the 'plus' version (has audio options to make computer 'games') for additional 0.I'd love to know where people have seen it for 9........in Australia the lowest I've seen it for sale for is 0.

on the home page there is a trial download.
Unless I am reading it wrong, the program is 9 from the manufacturers site. However, there are more expensive versions, so I assume those are the ones with all the add-ons.
I downloaded the trial version, but haven't gotten to play with it yet. While it was loading, I got a call that my dad had a heart attack, so it got put on the back burner. Dad is ok (as ok as he can be) and having surgery Monday. School starts Wednesday and I have a meeting tomorrow with the key people, so hopefully I can pull together some visual supports over the weekend before I have to drive down to be with my mom during his surgery. At the very least, he needs a social story about school and a basic schedule. Both of those require input from the teacher, so I can't just 'wing it'.
